The ballet La Fermosa with music for full orchestra composed by Irmin Schmidt (Choreography Youri Vamos) and commissioned by the Deutsche Oper Am Rhein, Düsseldorf, was premiered in Düsseldorf and Duisburg in March/April 2008.
1998 Gormenghast
Irmin Schmidt's fantasy opera Gormenghast, libretto Duncan Fallowell, based based on the Mervyn Peake trilogy, premiered at the Operahouse Wuppertal on 15 November 1998. The second production at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte premiered on the 2nd of June 2004 and 30.June 2004 at Grand Theatre Luxembourg
